Skin Moisturisation Tips with Emu Oil

Wintertime is when your skin starts to resemble snow – it’s flaking off all the time! If you’re experiencing super dry skin, and your regular moisturiser just doesn’t seem to improve the situation, it might be time to turn to emu oil.

When you’re used to using creams and lotions to moisturiser your face and body, the idea of applying oil all over might be a strange concept. You may be thinking, “Won’t it be greasy feeling?” “Won’t it clog my pores and make me break out?”. Don’t worry, we have all the answers you may be thinking of when you’re considering the powerful, mega-moisturising abilities of emu oil. It just might be what your skin needs this season.

Firstly, emu oil is great for your skin.

This is because emu oil has the ability to sink deep into the epidermis and effectively hydrate your skin from within! (Most creams only moisturise the top layer of the skin.)
Emu oil carries its nourishing Omega 369 fatty acids and high level antioxidants deep into your skin, protecting it from free radical damage and also smoothing fine lines and wrinkles by transporting the anti-aging properties where it’s needed.

But… will it cause break outs?

No - you don’t need to worry about emu oil turning your skin oily or triggering a break out to rival your teenage years. Emu oil is quickly absorbed, doesn’t feel greasy when applied, and is non-comedogenic, so it doesn’t block your pores. When applied to the skin, it does not leave an oily or sticky feeling, but instead sinks into your skin with super speed.

Applying emu oil to your face:

For oily or combination skin, we recommend applying emu oil at night after your usual cleansing routine. You can use emu oil on its own, or layer it over your regular moisturiser for an added boost of hydration.

For dry skin, we recommend using a couple of drops of emu oil at night-time, and also on top of your day-time moisturiser. You can wear it under your make up without clogging pores or affecting make up application.

Applying emu oil to your body:

The easiest way to benefit from an all-over radiant glow is by adding a few drops of pure emu oil to your bath water. If bathtubs aren’t your idea of fun, you can also apply emu oil to damp skin after you shower (for enhanced absorption). Add a few drops onto the palm of your hand and moisturiser from top to toe. Alternatively, consider using emu oil as a massage oil. Apply it to your hands, feet and anywhere in between before sleeping. This is an effective method for treating dry and cracked skin overnight.
